HOWARD A. TULLMAN APPOINTED TO PRESIDENCY OF KENDALL COLLEGE

Effective September 1, Howard A. Tullman of Chicago, became the eighth president of Kendall College, Evanston. Tullman brings a long history of management experience and an extensive background in the creation and development of many types of broad-based entrepreneurial ventures. In addition, his own extensive teaching experience and continuing involvement in education and the arts make him ideally suited to deal with the challenges and opportunities that Kendall faces in the future. Tullman’s appointment promises to continue the Kendall founders’ proud tradition of combining academics and the spirit of entrepreneurship.

Tullman graduated with honors from Northwestern University and its School of Law, also with honors, and served as the Chairman of the Editors of The Law Review. He was selected as a Ford Foundation Fellow and developed, along with James R. Thompson, former Governor of Illinois, a national Ford Foundation program for the study of criminal law. He practiced law in Chicago for ten years, specializing in federal litigation. He contributed a chapter on his experience to Life After Law, a book that describes lawyers who have opted for alternative careers. For more than 25 years, he also served as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

Academia is not new to Tullman, who has lectured for the last 15 years on venturing and entrepreneurship to senior managers, executives and business owners at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern.

Tullman will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Cobalt Group, a Seattle-based provider of Internet services and business to business marketplaces for the automotive industry, and as a Director of the Princeton Review. He also serves as an advisor to certain of the venture funds operated by the First Analysis Corporation and William Blair New World Ventures in Chicago.

His philanthropic contributions to area institutions are many and varied. He is an avid art collector, lender and donor to museums, including the Smart Museum of Art of the University of Chicago, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago Children’s Museum, the Evanston Art Center, the Springfield Art Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Frey Museum in Seattle, the Madison Art Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, where he previously served as a Trustee.

Tullman and his wife, Judith, live in Chicago and have two daughters: Thea, who resides in New York City, and Jamie, who is married and lives in Bethesda, MD.
